Dr. Alice Chen is a family physician currently providing psychotherapy to patients at the Grace Health Centre. Her nature is caring, empathetic, and thoughtful.
As a physician, Dr. Chen regards the person as a wondrously complex being with many dimensions, including the physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, relational, environmental and other aspects. She seeks holistic care for her patients that honors these dimensions, working together with them in a respectful, compassionate and empowering way, promoting growth, healing and shalom - health, well-being, peace - and hope.
Dr. Chen uses attachment-based Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT) as her main therapeutic modality for individuals, couples and families, and also leverages other modalities such as CBT, IFS, DBT, ACT, focusing and EMDR. In addition, she offers group therapy for improving emotion regulation, low self-esteem, and for learning Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills, as well as conducting Hold Me Tight® (HMT), and Hold Me Tight, Let Me Go® (HMT-LMG) workshops.
As a Clinical Fellow and Approved Supervisor of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) and certified EFT Therapist and Supervisor (ICEEFT), Dr. Chen prioritizes the supervision of therapists who wish to register under CRPO and/or work towards EFT certification.
Dr. Chen specializes in the treatment of adults and adolescents with mood and anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, PTSD, emotional regulation issues, marital, family and other relationship distress, immigration stress, grief, transitions, low self-esteem, adult ADHD, OCD, addictions, psychotic disorders, and dissociative disorders.
Having worked for twenty-five years in Asia full-time with a non-profit organization, focusing on the training of health care workers, Dr. Chen continues to take a special interest in the coaching, mentoring and care of international workers and pastoral staff (member care) through different organizations such as TEAM.
Dr. Alice Chen is currently focusing on teaching professional psychotherapists-in-training. Kindly note that sessions will be held exclusively in a group counselling format with Dr. Chen and her interns.
