Book appointment
Dr. Tat-Ying Wong is a family physician currently providing psychotherapy to patients at the Grace Health Centre.
He follows a biopsychosocial model of health that is attachment-focused and growth-oriented, emphasizing secure connections and an integrated sense of self.
Due to the large number of patients waiting to be helped, Dr. Wong (M.D.) is restricting his practice to providing consultations, facilitating groups in supportive and structured psychotherapy and supporting participants who attend these groups on a regular basis and those in the EFT Trainer’s Clinic. There is currently no waiting time nor wait list for these groups. Dr. Wong (M.D.) will no longer see individuals, couples nor families for psychotherapy except for the patients attending his groups consistently and EFT trainings. Dr. Wong (M.D.) will be able to provide help to many more patients through these groups. Patients who require individual, couple or family therapy who are not in Dr. Wong’s (M.D.) groups nor trainings can connect with the team of psychotherapists and social workers at Grace Health Centre, many of whom were trained by Dr. Wong (M.D.).
Just like the COVID pandemic, the only way to get through the current mental health pandemic is to engage everyone with psychological education and immunization through our support groups and structured therapy groups, mobilize family and lay caregivers, engage the support from faith and community leaders and finally consult professional helpers when the previous interventions are insufficient.
If you wish to have a consultation with Dr. Wong (M.D.) or join one of his groups, please complete the required intake forms and obtain a referral from your family doctor Our staff will contact you to book the initial consultation with Dr. Wong (M.D.) who will provide recommendations for treatment, including medications, support groups and resources for therapy.
Getting to know Dr. Wong(M.D): Physician, Therapist, Supervisor and International Trainer
As a physician, Dr. Wong (M.D.) recognized that treatments for relationship distress, a deadly and prevalent chronic illness, were inadequate. Since learning that Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) cured 3 out of 4 couples with relationship distress, he has trained thousands of Chinese professional helpers in North America and Asia in EFT and produced hundreds of EFIT, EFCT, EFFT, Hold Me Tight® Conversations for Connection (HMTC4C), and Hold Me Tight® Let Me Go (HMTLMG) training videos with Chinese clients.
Dr. Wong (M.D.) is also a registered Couple and Family Therapist in Ontario and a Clinical Member and Supervisor in the Canadian Association for Couple and Family Therapy (CACFT) and American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT). He is the only Cantonese speaking Certified EFT International Trainer in the world. He is also trained in EMDR level I and II and in group crisis intervention.
As Lecturer and Faculty in the award-winning Counselling and Psychotherapy in Family Medicine Program in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Toronto, Dr. Wong is passionate about equipping Family Physicians to work effectively with couples and families (www.cpd.utoronto.ca/cpfm/faculty). He is also interested in equipping faith leaders and has taught Pastoral Counselling and Family Ministry courses at the Chinese Canadian School of Theology and Self-Esteem and Managing Emotions courses at the Alliance Bible Seminary Centre of Canada.
Dr. Wong (M.D.) is on staff in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the Humber River Hospital, the first lean, green, and all-digital hospital in Canada. He continues to develop evidence-based Chinese psycho-education and therapy resources (www.reconnecteft.com) and has conducted and published the first EFT/HMT/C4C outcome study with Chinese couples. His vision is to share EFT, an incredible gift of healing relationships and deep attachment wounds, with Chinese around the world.
